Startup Of The Year Awards: Momint at top of the log

The Innovation City Startup Awards saw hundreds of talented applicants vying for recognition, after a panel of experts waded through applications to pick a top 10; Momint emerged as one of the top three companies in the competition. Judged by a panel of international VC’s and experts, the awards showcase the best and brightest in the world of tech startups, and Momint's innovative approach to solar investments has proven to be a game changer.

Founded with the vision to enable accessible funding and trade of solar investments, Momint specializes in putting real assets and legal contracts on the blockchain, leveraging the power of decentralized finance. Their platform includes a built-in digital wallet, making transactions seamless for users.

A key moment for Momint came in March 2022, when they hosted Africa’s largest NFT auction. During this event, they sold Nelson Mandela’s original arrest warrant for a staggering two Million rand. The profits from this sale went on to fund the restoration of Liliesleaf heritage site, preserving vital historical documents from South Africa's struggle for democracy.

Continuing their mission to create positive change, Momint launched the SunCash initiative in January 2023. Aimed at addressing South Africa’s energy crisis, SunCash offers a cost-effective solution by allowing individuals to purchase solar cells for as little as R85. Not only does this promote renewable energy adoption, but it also enables users to sell their solar energy back to public institutions through a Standard Power Purchase Agreement.

The SunCash platform has created a win-win situation for both individuals and the environment. Users are able to support clean energy initiatives while earning a forecasted income, effectively democratizing access to solar and energy investments.

The recognition received by Momint at the Innovation City Startup Awards is a testament to our dedication and passion for driving change in the world of renewable energy. As we continue to break new ground in the solar investment space, you can expect more exciting developments from us in the years to come!
